Dr. Henry Brouwer received his B.Sc. (1966) and Ph.D. (1971) from the University of Western Ontario. He taught high school science and mathematics for 15 years prior to becoming Professor of Chemistry at Redeemer University College in 1985. He has been actively involved in the elementary science program with Christian schools in Ontario (developing curriculum units, conducting numerous workshops for teachers, teaching a science education course for teachers in training, giving science shows at all grade levels). His love for doing and showing science is reflected in this work. He has worked with Dr. Tom Murphy at the Canada Centre for Inland Waters from 1987 - 1993 doing research on sediment remediation and published several research papers relating to sediment remediation. He has also published articles relating to chemical education on the use of low cost materials for chemistry experiments, environmental chemistry labs and microscale labs. |
| As a result of his interest in environmental issues, he introduced Environmental Science 101, a first year course for non science students and was instrumental in beginning an Environmental Studies program at Redeemer University College. Since 1994, he has taught Environmental Chemistry (CHE 332) at the Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies in Michigan. | |
